Medium tic tac toe strategy
Medium mode: balanced but beatable
Medium difficulty sits deliberately between forgiving and perfect. The opponent defends obvious threats and takes its own wins, but its move ordering is not exhaustive, so it occasionally misses a quiet setup move that does not look dangerous on the current turn.
That gap is where games are decided. The winning idea at medium level is the fork: place a mark so it threatens two lines at once, and the computer can only block one. Corners give you the most fork opportunities, so control a corner early and keep the centre available as your second threat.
Play a few medium games after easy and pay attention to the turn where you felt stuck. Usually that turn is the one where you should have created a threat instead of filling an empty square.

Frequently asked questions
- Is tic tac toe always a draw?
- With perfect play from both sides, yes. The first player can force at least a draw, and so can the second—every win comes from an opponent stepping out of the correct line.
- What is the best first move?
- The centre square. It is part of four of the eight winning lines, more than any corner or edge. A corner opening is the higher-variance alternative that punishes weak replies faster.
- How do I win on easy difficulty?
- Open in a corner and build a fork—two winning threats at once. Easy opponents block visible threats but do not look ahead, so they will let the double threat appear.
